Carlo Ancelotti has reason to be preoccupied. After a series of poor results he could well be replaced by Frank Rijkaard in the near future. Milan have lost six of their last eight matches, including defeats in their last two friendly matches, and heavy pressure is mounting on the Milan boss.
After losing their Serie A opener to Bologna at the San Siro, they went on to confirm their poor form with a loss against modest Swiss side Lugano during the week. After the loss a frustrated Ancelotti sent a message to his players: "You have left me in a very difficult situation."
However, FIFA World Footballer of the year, Kaka, insists that Milan can't "lose their calm" and that they have to be "united and need to keep on working hard."
"I'm confident that soon the victories will begin to arrive," added the Brazilian attacking midfielder.
After the defeat against Lugano Adriano Galliani, the vice-president of Milan, asked Ancelotti for an explanation. Apparently, if Milan don't manage to beat Genoa on Sunday, the club will look to Roberto Donadoni and Frank Rijkaard as their two main candidates to replace Ancelotti.
While Donadoni is the favourite to take over the coaching job, if Ancelotti is eventually sacked, the appointment of Rijkaard would be a dream come true for the Milan directors.
Rijkaard starred for Milan as a player between 1988 and 1993. During this period he won several important trophies, including two Scudettos, the European Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
