Evra suffered more than just a metaphorical blow during Saturday's loss to Liverpool, having come off second best after butting heads with an opponent.
The France full-back stuck out the full 90 minutes at Anfield, but The Sun reports that he was belatedly diagnosed with concussion after becoming physically ill on the return to Manchester.
The 26-year-old is thus in serious danger of missing Villarreal's visit to Old Trafford this week, meaning Sir Alex Ferguson may be forced to call upon Irish utility John O'Shea.
Evra's absence would leave United's ranks looking decidedly thin, as Michael Carrick will also sit out while Cristiano Ronaldo's comeback has been put off until the weekend.
