Hughes: No Go On Ronaldo

Ronaldo was persistently linked with a City move during the summer after being released by AC Milan, where his short spell was dogged by injury.

There were whispers throughout the off-season that Hughes was always opposed to signing the former Real Madrid superstar, and that then-owner Thaksin Shinawatra was attempting to force through a deal behind the manager's back.

The Ronaldo-City link has resurfaced in the past few days after the 31-year-old revealed that the English club had made him a solid offer which he was strongly considering.

The World Cup winner, whose weight problems have been extensively documented, is currently training with Flamengo in a bid to reach peak physical condition.

But Hughes remains unconvinced and confirmed that the Sky Blues are no longer interested in Ronaldo.

“A couple of months ago we were in preliminary talks with his advisers,” the Welshman said in The Times

“The people surrounding him were keen to press his case while he was trying to get back to full fitness. I don't think he's fully fit even as we speak now.

“They were sounding out clubs who were interested in his situation. We had those discussions, but we won't be pursuing it.”
