But it was the Togolese hitman who stole the limelight with three well taken goals against Blackburn, thus banishing all thoughts of a possible goal drought as had yet to open his account in the Premier League this season ahead of this weekend.
"People kept asking me when I was going to score my first goal in the league this season. But I told them it is more important that the team wins. We showed good character at Blackburn and that will help our confidence," Adebayor was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
The hattrick represented a marked upturn in fortune from even the start of the season, when the 24-year-old was booed by certain sections of the Arsenal support.
Adebayor came in for vast amounts of criticism from all quarters for holding the club ransom by threatening to move abroad unless they more than double his wage as reward for a season in which he hit 30 goals and established himself as one of the form strikers in Europe.
He has since signed a new contract at the club, however, and says he is desperate to win back the full affection of the Gunners' supporters.
