The striker will spend a season at White Hart Lane as part of the deal which saw Dimitar Berbatov move to Old Trafford. However, speaking to MUTV Gill admitted the club had not wanted to let him go.
“We clearly rate Fraizer and he's a well sought-after young striker,” said the chief executive before adding, “We believe, and Alex believes, that he has a great future.”
Campbell joined United as a teenager and has come through the ranks at Old Trafford. He even began the club’s opening game of the season against Newcastle, partnering Wayne Rooney up front.
The youngster spent last season on loan at Hull City who were reported to have made a bid for Campbell yesterday and Gill acknowledged that the club had received several other offers for the youngster but were unwilling to sell the 20-year-old. Gill explained: “We did receive offers to buy him but we didn't want to do that.”
The United man also explained that he was hoping Campbell would gain experience at Tottenham and that he would come back an improved player he would be in a position to fight for his place in the team against the likes of Berbatov, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez.
“The fact is he's on loan at a great club like Tottenham, he'll get exposure in The Premier League and come back a better player and hopefully force his way into the team here,” confessed Gill before concluding, “It's good for him and good for us.”
